In my small goldsmith's workshop, I design and handcraft unique jewelery in solid 14 and 18 carat gold. Gold has a timeless appeal at the same time as it is hard-wearing and durable, which is preferable for jewelery that must last for generations.
Carat
Karat denotes the purity of gold (Au). The carat system ranges from 0 to 24. Pure gold is thus 24 carats — i.e. 24 parts out of 24. In 14 karat, 14 out of 24 parts are pure gold. Below is a detailed explanation of the difference between 24, 18, 14 and 8 carat gold.
Gold karat stamps
In Danish jewelry, "obedience/Karat" and the "name" of the jewelry designer are almost always stamped.
24 carat gold : Stamped "999" when it is 99.9% pure gold, without the addition of other substances. Gold in its purest form is relatively soft, which limits its usefulness in jewelry. To improve gold's hardness and wear resistance, it is often combined with copper and silver, creating a lower karat value.
18 carat gold : Stamped "750" when the piece of jewelery contains 75% pure gold and 25% other metals. 18 carat gold has a beautiful intense gold color and a good balance between purity and hardness.
14 carat gold : Stamped "585" when the piece of jewelery consists of 58.5% pure gold and 41.5% other metals. Visually, the difference between 14 and 18 carat gold is small, but often 14 carat gold will be slightly cooler and lighter in color than 18 carat gold, which appears more yellow and stronger in the golden tone.
8 Karat gold : Stamped "333" when the piece of jewelry contains 33.3% gold and 76.7% other metals. This low carat value affects the intensity of the gold's charm, but is more affordable in terms of price for those who want gold jewelry.
Timeless gold jewellery
Gold is a timeless and exclusive material of choice for jewellery, due to its rarity, beauty, durability and cultural and symbolic significance.
The precious metal's warm and golden color has a natural elegance that makes gold jewelery suitable for every occasion.
